How to stop auto opening of links?

for example if Im reading an article or something that has a link , I tap it so it opens the menu to give me the options to like add it to reading list or whatever but instead it just automatically opens the link in the same page , Not even a new tab, and it makes me lose what I was reading, or it does open the menu but before I can chose what to do it opens the link anyway. I have looked settings and I dont know what is causing this

any ideas?

Hi SmurfieGhost,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you are experiencing difficulties while using Safari on your iPhone. We can help.

Based on the screenshot you've shared, this is a feature of Safari. When you tap and hold on a link within a webpage, it will load a preview of the content within that link. You can tap 'Hide preview' in the top-right corner, if you do not prefer this view. This is further discussed on this User Guide page, under the section titled, 'Preview website links': Browse the web using Safari on iPhone - Apple Support. As quoted from that same section, "To close the preview and stay on the current page, tap anywhere outside the preview window." Having this preview of the link showing, should not stop you from being able to choose the options from the menu that appears.

Now that we've provided you with more information and clarification, can you confirm if this is working as expected?

Best regards.
