Merging people in Photos

Does the people merge function in Photos work? I have somehow created multiple "people" in Photos for the same person. The instructions to merge these into one person say to command click each individual, then control click one and choose to merge the people. This doesn't seem to work as the individual people tiles are still there. What and I doing wrong?

What works for me is to drag one of the "person x" thumbnails onto the correct "person x" thumbnail in the Persons view. Always drag onto the one name you want to keep.

It will depend on the system version you are using.

In Photos 3 to Photos 5 you can use the method to drag one album on top of another as described by OT.

To avoid the duplicate People albums pick always the same name from the list of suggested names. And set the key photo for the people album you want to keep to a very distinctive photo so you can easily recognise the correct name in the list of suggested names.
