Clamshell mode to external monitor power issue

Hi,

When I have the power connected to my MacBook Pro (2015) when using it in clamshell (docked) mode, the external monitor functions as expected. However, when I run the MacBook Pro in battery mode, the external display goes inactive until the power cable is used.

I'm trying to preserve the battery. Anything I can do?

Thanks!

That is how it is designed to work. You must be plugged in to use closed display (clamshell) mode. Leaving the computer plugged in will not damage your battery.
