OSX El Capitan 10.11.6 upgrade

I have an iMac with OSX El Capitan version 10.11.6 . Is it true that I cannot update this?

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which iMac model you have, download High Sierra or Catalina; the maximum OS for a 21.5-inch iMac will be one of these. They're full-version upgrades and won't appear in the Updates list.

A 20-inch or 24-inch iMac can be upgraded to El Capitan at most.
