DVD not showing up on desktop

Recently I upgraded to OS 10.15.7. When I put a DVD in the drive, it is not recognized and doesn't show up on the desktop. I have tried several different DVDs and two DVD drives. They all worked fine before the upgrade. Do I need to change any settings to get the DVDs recognized?

If they are movie DVDs, try running the DVD app from the Applications folder.

Are they data DVDs? Some data discs were formatted in HFS, which was superseded by HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) many years ago.

Mojave (10.14) could still read HFS, but Catalina (10.15) no longer supports it.
