My iPod is disabled it says connect to iTunes how do I do that

It’s an iPod I gave to my grandson and he no longer uses it and I’m trying to unlock it and I didn’t unlock it and now it says connect to iTunes how can I bypass that to reset this iPod to get my information in it

There isn't a way to bypass that. The following instructions may help: If you forgot the passcode on your iPod touch, or your iPod touch is disabled - Apple Support
