Hi,

When an Ethernet cable is connected to one of the LAN ports of a router, DHCP is typically used.

Which exact Mac model is it?

Try this:

Turn off the computer and the router. Connect the Ethernet cable. Switch the router on. Start the computer.

Open the TCP/IP control panel. Set "Connect via:" to "Ethernet". Set "Configure:" to "Using DHCP Server".

Close the control panel and save the settings.

Restart the computer.

I guess that you have a web browser on the hard disk. However, all old browsers have difficulties with modern (https) web pages, so the connection attempt will probably fail unless you connect to a plain http site (for example, knubbelmac.de). You may want to try a web browser called Classilla.
