Suddenly not able to select 2 stereo pairs of Homepods to output Apple TV 4k Audio

Up until last weekend, we have had 4 homepods set up into 2 stereo pairs and linked to our Living Room Apple to and were able to have the apple tv settings in audio output select BOTH stereo pairs. Now suddenly we can only select one stereo pair. If we try to add the second, it removes the first. Please tell me there is a fix to this as we are using this as a surround sound system for a large living room that is open above and so soundbars have all been inadequate. I would hate to find out that our expensive investment into this system is suddenly incompatible.

In my experience the update to tvOS 14.2 has made the link between an ATV 4K and stereo Homepods more robust and user-friendly. However there are numerous reports of people finding that previous setups no longer work - especially earlier ATV models. You might have struck a similar problem with an ATV 4K and two pairs of Homepods.

Have you tried the Control Panel method of changing audio output instead of going to the ATV Settings? Press and hold the TV button on the Siri Remote to bring up the Control Panel. It might give you more options.

In any case you could report the problem to Apple:

They don't monitor these Discussions for reports of bugs.

Hey Tben1239,

It sounds like you're having an issue using your HomePods as stereo speakers. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.

First, we'd recommend checking for and installing any updates that may be available to your Apple TV and your HomePods:

How to update your Apple TV

Update HomePod

We'd then suggest ensuring that each HomePod has a different name, as if multiple HomePods share the same name it could cause this issue to occur: Change HomePod settings

If that doesn't resolve the issue, we'd suggest restarting your HomePods as well as your Apple TV and wireless router to see if that helps.

Thanks!
