iCloud Drive — I want it, but don't want Desktop synced

Just updated to Big Sur 11.0.1. and Set Up Assistant asked if I wanted to sync Desktop & Documents via iCloud Drive. No, I do not.

It turned off iCloud Drive entirely.

I go to turn it back on in System Preferences and there is no longer the option to turn off Desktop & Documents syncing.

I turned on iCloud Drive anyway and now I'm back to waiting (hours?) before my iCloud Drive populates again....

Very odd. Visit the System Preferences again, Apple ID — now I have Options… for iCloud Drive and can turn off Desktop * Documents syncing.

Still waiting for my iCloud Drive contents to show up....
