AirPort Extreme 5gGHz has less bars than the 2.4

Suddenly my AirPort Extreme is acting up. I get less bars from the 5GHz than the 2.4 GHz even though I am in the same room where is located. Ut seems like is not working properly. What is the issue and can I repair this issue.

What model is your Airport Extreme?

Age is important as they do wear out..

More likely what has happened is the Airport has swapped to a 5ghz channel that has poor transmission or interference.

This can also depend where you live and if the airport is regionally set correctly.

What I would recommend is go to the airport utility in your Mac.. or use iOS version ..

Change the 5ghz to one of the high channels.. e.g. 161 .. and if that does not work try low channel like 38 or 48.

Honestly if your airport is 5+ years old just replace it.. and even 3-5 years old it might be worth replacing since Apple is no longer making them and has been out of the market for coming up to 3 years.

But if you want to have a try .. reset the Airport to factory and redo the configuration.

Do not use Apple recommended names.. use short name with no spaces and pure alphanumerics.. e.g. AE works fine.

For wireless I use AE24ghz and also set 5ghz to AE5ghz just so I know immediately from the wireless name what band it is.

But if you prefer auto that is fine.. just leave name and wireless name the same as AE.

Tell me how it goes.
