I have my iPad Air connected to my Mac with a USB cable. When I open Finder the only categories that show up are Favorites Devices and Tags. There is no Locations category so my iPad is not showing up in the sidebar.

I’m trying sync my photos on my iPad to my iMac. My goal is to be able to delete photos off my iPad Air and iPhone 6.
See above picture. When I click on Finder and then Sidebar, the Categories are Favorites, Devices & Tags. My Devices are CHRISTINE’s iMac (2) and Remote Disc. I have no “remote disc” connected to my iMac (2012).

Locations won't show up as your Mac OS is to old.
If you are running High Sierra then you should still have iTunes.
You only use locations in Catalina, as in Catania apple got rid of iTunes and split them into different apps, such as music, tv, photos, book, podcast and then you use finder to download updates
Okay, so the instructions you found are for MacOS Catalina and newer.
This article talks about using the Photos app for your pictures, which should work. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201302#importmac

Sorry my answer was misleading. I often forget that not everyone is using the same version of software that I am using. I have been using that owl for ages, can't remember where I got it. If you Google 'owl avatar,' you should be able to find something appropriate. On this forum, you are allowed to use your own avatar after you reach a certain level - level three, I think. 1) What version of Mac OS is on the computer?
2) What version of iOS is on the iPad?
3) Are you using an Apple cable?
4) Have you connected the iPad to this Mac before?

I'm so sorry that I've taken so long to answer. Friday and Saturday I spent many hours doing a collage of pictures for my nephew's 50th that went back to 1979! The whole family Zoomed and reminisced.

Try this... First click on Finder, then Click on Finder at top left corner, select Preferences. At lower portion of that pane, you may select items you want in the Locations section. Now make sure that iOS devices box is checked. Sometimes, my devices don't show up in Finder, so I have to go to preferences, uncheck and recheck to get them to show up in Locations
