Distorted colors on images on MacBookAir (images and video only)

My Macbook air display sometime show distorted colors on images (see attached). the colors of non-image objects is just fine. This problem appears and disappears at random.

The problem does not happen on external monitor (when I drag the window to an external monitor it looks fine) and when I do a screen capture copy-paste I see the colors just fine.

Hi Omri,

At first glance and from your description of the issue, this appears to be signs of a failing display. The logic board is fine because your screen shots show the correct colors and windows on external display also show the correct colors. You can try the following troubleshooting steps and see whether any one of them resolves the issue:

  1. Reset SMC by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset SMC. If that does not solve things t
  2. Reset NVRAM/PRAM by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset NVRAM/PRAM. If that does not solve things then-
  3. Enter ➔ Safe Mode and see if the screen issue still exists in Safe mode. Log out of Safe Mode and then reboot computer. If that does not solve things then-
  4. Finally if none of the above works then you can enter ➔ macOS Recovery Mode and reinstall the macOS and see if that solves it.

Thats all I have for now. Beyond the above recommendations, You can have your MacBook examined at the Apple Store or an Authorized Service Center when they open or contact ➔ Apple Support
