Is it okay to buy a screen protector for the new M1 Macbook Pro 13"? I have had the computer for about two weeks, and I want to protect the screen, so I can clean it without worrying about scratches / the clear coat peeling.
I would like a clear screen protection film (plastic). Does Apple have a clear policy for/against that?

In the free session after I got my M1 Macbook, I asked the same question to the apple executive. He said it's upto the customer if he/she wants to use a screen protector. If you don't want to use a screen protector like the people in his office, then you have to be careful while handling your device and periodically clean it with damp microfibre cloth. So there is no policy violation if you use one.
Personally I got a screen protector because I carry my Mac in my backpack and you never know how much pressure is there on the lid. Also my previous laptop screen has keyboard impressions on it. It's not a TV or desktop that you can always maintain a safe distance. So I applied a screen protector. The upside is I can change it whenever it is scratchy. The downside is increased reflectivity. The viewing quality is not absolute at at par with the naked screen but again the difference is marginally noticeable.

I would advise against putting on any plastic screen protection. It may damage the screen or its coating.
I never understood the reason for using such protection on a non touch screen. Do you put a plastic screen protector on your TV?
I am open to listening as to why one would feel the need to use such protection though.
I have had my late 2013 MBP in for a screen replacement in 2016 because of the clear coat, which was peeling (google: stain gate macbook pro). The new screen got the same issues 2 years later, and I only cleaned it with a special soft microfibre cloth and my breath (sounds weird, I know).
I would really like to avoid this again. That's the reason. I hope it makes sense.
