Deleting songs from iPod 1.1.3

I'm trying to delete songs for an iPad model MA497 version 1.1.3 8 Gb

When connected by usb to my Mac mini I can get a small window with all the songs and delete button, nothing happens when I try to delete one song or multiples.

I don't want to reset the device and lose everything.

Help!

Managing music on iPod i cannot manage the music on my iPod from my laptop because the content isn’t highlighted on the screen. I can see the song names and info but can’t do anything with it. I want to delete some of the songs.
