iPad Pro keyboard “accessory not supported”

I keep getting this error and have to take the keyboard off the iPad Pro to try and get it working again but it is totally random as to whether it works. Today it is flatly refusing to connect. What’s wrong? Keyboard connections are clean and the keyboard hasn’t been dropped/damaged....

Are you using an Apple Smart (folio) keyboard?

This alert is typically characteristic of a faulty folio keyboard. The electrical connections that pass though the flexible fabric hinges typically fracture - this usually resulting in errors and/or the on-screen notification that you see.

The Smart folio keyboard is not repairable. The only remedy is replacement of the keyboard.
