Customizing Control Strip

I've attempted to customize the control strip through System Preferences - Keyboard - Customize Control Strip. I can see the changes on the control strip on my computer (MacBook, 13 inch, 2020) so I click Done on the screen, but the icons on the Control Strip are not there. I can just see 5 on the right hand side - an arrow that brings up volume control, brightness, sound, mute and Siri. The ones I added in don't show. I read the posts below and reset the PRAM, but it doesn't seem to have done anything.

What am I doing wrong??? Thanks for any advice.

Shift Command 6 will screenshot the Touchbar if you need to illustrate some issue—

not all apps or optimized for Touch bar/Controlstrip

Customize the Touch Bar on Mac - Apple Support

You can make changes to >System Preferences>Keyboard>TouchBar and make it work better for you

If you think you have an issue

you can Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
