Enter key not working

Hi! I have a macbook air and recently the enter key stopped working. Well, it works at times. I got an external mac keyboard, which works nicely... all the keys but the enter. I certainly doubt that it is a coincidence and both have an enter key that work sometimes and sometimes doesn't. I haven't been able to find what might be causing this problem. Do you have an idea of what it is and how to fix it? Thank you! (Forgive my lack of paragraphs... my enter key is acting up right now, I hope it's still readable)

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with the enter key on your MacBook Pro and an external keyboard.

You may want to test if the same thing is occurring in safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

If the issue is not occurring in safe mode, please check the section titled "If the issue doesn't continue in safe mode."

If the issue is also occurring in safe mode, create an unmodified test administrator user and test there. Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

We await the results. Also, it may be beneficial to know if this is occurring in a specific app or apps, or any other info you can offer to help isolate the issue.
