Battery Issue

Hi, it's been a while but my macbook battery randomnly became and issue where it won't charge. I'm no longer under warranty (figures). I saw that upgrading to Big Sur could possibly fix those issues, but with no luck.

Is it an expensive process to send this in to get done?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.2

Sorry. In the 'About This Mac' area, it says

macOS Big Sur
Version 11.2.1
MacBook Pro (15-inc, 2018)
Processor 2.2 GHz 6-ore Intel Core i7
Memory 16GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Graphics Intel UHD GRAPHICS 630 1536 MC

Where the battery icon is - it says the battery is not charging. I followed the area where it says Battery Health and it says Service Recommended.

I just saw with the new update that the battery issue may have been fixed. This macBook doesn't get too much use, so I found it odd that this would happen.

I guess I am just wondering if it is a costly process to get a battery serviced/replaced?

If the battery in your 2016 or 2017 MacBook Pro won't charge past 1%—

The battery health status on these devices will also indicate "Service Recommended."

You give no detail...

You neglect to say what exact Mac this is and what exact macOS...(?)

The battery health management software (BHM) can put on hold your charging this is the new normal.

It interpolates your usage pattern, and can hold it at 92% 84% 72% etc. however it deems best.

Click the battery icon in the upper right if you need 100% charge for portability (or Option click)

"When battery health management is turned on, your battery's maximum charging capacity might be limited. Although the feature is designed to improve your battery's lifespan, the limited maximum capacity might update your battery status menu to indicate a need for service. Your Mac calculates when to recommend service for your battery based on battery health management being continuously enabled."
