Locating Apple product owner

I found a iPad 2nd gen. a while ago and I was wondering if there is anyway to get a hold of the registered owner. Since most of their Apple ID is blank, emailing them isn't an option. Is there any way to contact the owner or get Apple to contact them?

Recycle it.

That’s a fairly common question.

Sometimes asked by well-meaning folks.

Sometimes asked by crooks or exes or others looking to cause problems.

Apple isn’t going to identify the owner.

If the owner didn’t set a message after the loss or theft, there’s no contacting them.

Thank you for your reply. Of course Apple shouldn't reveal who the owner is, but certainly they could give the owner the device the contact info of the finder and let the two of them take it from there. Of course precautions would be the same as when a stranger manages to find the owner. Meet in public places, check phone for malware, key loggers etc., but America being the litigious country that it is, I sort of get it, though I can't help but feel the motive is financial.

For everyone who leaves a way for people to contact them if lost phone is found, do not leave an email address, it will go straight into spam, leave a phone number of a trusted friend or relative who knows how to get ahold of you by ways other than your phone number.

Apple already provides the owner a means to do all that. It is built into the Find My service, and a lost mode display message. But it is up to owners to use that, or not, as they choose. Apple gives owners the choice to do exactly as you describe, without any intervention by Apple at all.

Apple doesn’t get involved with anyone’s lost or stolen personal property.
