iMac stopped syncing

Yes. I had folders on my desktop and they disappeared and the last photo that uploaded was Wednesday. I was having trouble with the sound and contacted apple support Thursday and sometime after that it all went awry. My iMAC is rather old (8 years) but I have it connected to my printer/scanner it's cumbersome to move photos via Email every time I want so scan and save something!

Seriously, I was at my wit's end. Everything is showing up now on both MACs, but "iCloud Drive needs to finish updating before continuing with sign out." i guess the iMAC will run all night.... I'm afraid to hit 'Cancel' or 'Stop Updating and Continue' as I vaguely remember that is what got me into this mess earlier this week..... Leah
