How to use a 27" Late-2013 iMac as an external monitor for a 2021 Macbook Air w/M1 chip

Hi!

I would like to use my 27" Late-2013 iMac (running macOS Catalina) as an external monitor with my 2021 Macbook Air (with M1 chip).

What cables will I need? And do I need to enter any particular mode on my iMac or Macbook Air?

No cables necessary as it will not work. Target Display Mode had it's final funeral (this first funeral was with the advent of Retina iMacs) when Big Sur and the M1 Macs were released. Spend your time, money and other resources on getting the MBA an external display.
