My MacBook Pro shows the wrong year for files and searches

I have a new MacBook Pro that shows the wrong date for files and searches.


One example is a document in my Downloads folder that I downloaded a couple of weeks ago. It shows a Date Modified in 2012.



Another example is a recent search I made in Messages for a keyword. The search returned several results, which I recognize as being from a week or so ago, but the date shows as 2012 in the results.



The machine's date is set correctly in System Preferences. (Right now it shows Wed Apr 28, 2021.) The date is also set to to automatically stay up to date in System Preferences.


Does anyone know what the issue is and how to fix it?

Yes.


This occurs rarely when you display the date&Time using the wrong translation or if the preferences behind the translation are damaged. To fix, choose a different one, and save changes, then change to the one you want to live with, and save changes. This ensures that damaged preferences will be re-written.


and the place to apply this is in:

System preferences > Language & Region.


so for example if you are in the US, choose Europe temporarily and save changes and close the window.

Then re-choose US and save changes and close the window.


Then test.
