iPhone XR does not bring up the keyboard to type when needed in any app-including email

Hi there everyone, i have had my XR for 3 years now and in the past week it has started to behave erratically. When I visit a website that requires I type something in, or try to reply to an email-or if an app requires me to type something I am unable to call up the keyboard, Which should just come up automatically. Any ideas?

I haven't been able to use half of my apps that require a log in code as there is no keyboard to type them in with!

THanks

iPhone XR, iOS 14

Thanks for keeping us updated on this. Let's continue to narrow down what might be going on here. Have you ever connected any external keyboard or accessibility devices to your iPhone in the past? As a test, what happens if you go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth then restart the iPhone. Does the same thing continue to happen?

If you navigate to Settings > General > Keyboards, and tap on Keyboards, does it show that there are keyboards there? Do you show a "Hardware Keyboard" option in the Keyboards setting munu selections anywhere?

Let us know what you find.

Hello norffas245,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! We understand you are experiencing some issues with your on screen keyboard on your iPhone SE. We are happy to help provide some guidance.

To start, could you let us know a bit more about what happens when you tap on a message or email and the keyboard should appear? Does it come up with a blank box, or does it just not appear on the screen as it should? Does this happen every time you try bringing up the keyboard, or just sometimes? Have you tried any troubleshooting steps to try to resolve this issue?

One thing to look into would be making sure your iOS version is up to date. If you navigate to Settings > General > Software Update, do you show any updates available there?

Keep us updated on those questions. We are happy to help.

Best Regards.

Hi there, thanks for your reply.

Its an iPhone XR, it seems to be happening when I need to type in information such as in my banking app and I have also noticed no keyboard appears when I try to reply to an email in my hotmail address.

It has also happened when i need to type in my passcode to update the phone-so in the end had to update with iTunes on my laptop.

No keyboard appears at all when I click into a box to type. I have tried rotating the phone but that doesn't seem to work either.

Extremely frustrating! I regularly use email and banking app and now I can't use them! Seriously considering chucking my phone into the bin!

This has only ben the case since Friday-I simply don't know what has happened!

Any help appreciated.
