MacBook not allowing login

I haven’t used my 2013 MacBook Pro for a few years and tried getting on it today. It will turn on to show the users, but I can’t click on either users to enter a password. Is there a way to bypass the users or to force it to allow me to enter a password? I’ve tried restarting it several times.

Hmmm.

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

Try login and test. Reboot as normal. Caches get rebuilt automatically
