The Mac can appear frozen, can reboot several times, and can have a black screen with seemingly no progress— so give it a chance.


If you are beyond this normal process—You can always force quit the Mac by holding the power button/TouchID for ~6-10 sec.

Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac - Apple ...



Reboot as normal and see where this leaves you.


You can try again the upgrade from a SafeBoot environment and see it goes better.
