Is there a way to connect a newer MacBookAir to an older iMac to use as a monitor?

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no first party method from Apple for use with your 2017 iMac. The best you could do is screen sharing but there would be lag. iMacs from 2009 to mid 2014 had this feature, more info here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204592
