Apple TV 4K not passing 4K Dolby Vision on Yamaha RX-V4A

So spent 3 hours trying to get it work work.

confirmed all my HDMI cables directly to my Sony A90J pass 4K 60fps Dolby Vision just fine. Once I connect it to the RX-V4A it will only pass 4K SDR.

I have the HDMI cable connected to the eARC HDMI port 3 on the TV. I have tried port 1-3 on the RX-V4A with the same result. I have tried both Mode 1 and 2 on the RX-V4A.

software is up to date on all devices.

Anyone else see this?

Had a excellent response from Yamaha.

as expected I missed a setting on the TV. Because when the Apple TV is directly connected to the Sony it just works. But via the Receiver you have to force it on the TV end. My other setting where correct but here is what they said.

Dolby vision does work form an AppleTV 4K but, there are settings that you must do on the TV and on the RX-V4A end in order for this to work.

Apple TV > Yamaha RX-V4A > Sony A90J

On the Sony TV,

Go to SETTINGS

WATCHING TV

EXTERNAL INPUTS

HDMI SIGNAL FORMAT

Under HDMI 3(eARC/ARC)

Set to ENHANCED FORMAT(Dolby Vision).

On the RX-V4A

SETUP

HDMI

Settings as follows:

HDMI CONTROL - ON

4K UPSCALING - OFF

HDCP VERION - AUTO

HDMI FORMAT - MODE 1

On AppleTV 4K

Audio-Video settings

Set format to 4K Dolby Vision

So a little update: Though I can make 4K 60fps Dolby Vision pass it does not persist past a reboot. To fix that issue I must set the eARC input on the Sony A90J from Dolby Vision back to standard then back to Vision for the picture from the Apple TV to make it to the screen.

I am not sure where the bottle neck or transaction error is occurring. Will have to reach out to Apple Support and Sony support to try and figure out a fix.

First step is to see if I can force Apple TV to Dolby Vision. I think the automatic detection is causing the problem.
