Target Display Mode won't trigger.

I have a iMac Mid 2010 which has a mini display port. With a mini display port - display port cable, I connect it to a HP laptop.

However, both Cmd-f2 and Cmd-fn-f2 are not working, iMac shows no response. And the HP laptop also cannot detect any external display.

I also tried to connect a surface pro through mini display port to the same iMac, also no luck.

Is that the Target Display Mode only work for Mac to Mac connection? Anyone has success in using old iMac as display for a PC or laptop ?

Thanks a lot for any help or feedback.

Hi Jack,

Late 2009 and 2010 27" iMacs do support Target Display Mode with PCs. The OP does not indicate the size iMac he owns. If he has a 21.5" 2010 iMac you are absolutely correct, Target Display Mode will not work.

So the OP needs to clarify which iMac they own.
