iPad storage space

What is IPadOS storage and why is it take up so much space? Is there a way to clear some of it as well as the “Other (system data)” storage that has taken up space? I attached a picture of how much space they’re taking up.

The message here is: a 32 GB iPad's storage space is not going to last very long; you add a few more apps, photos, or messages (the three things that use up the most of the remaining space) and it'll be full. You need to remember that you need to maintain at least 3 - 5 GB of empty space at all times for the iOS to function properly, so you do not have a lot of space to play around with/waste. If you fill it up completely, it will simply stop functioning. Try to be conservative with how many photos, messages, etc you add, move them to a computer or external drive to keep or delete things you don't need.
