I have tvOS 15. My Apple TV used to indicate which episodes of a series I had watched. It is no longer doing so. If any time has lapsed between episodes, I don’t always remember which was the last one I watched. in particular I am asking about the Apple TV+ shows which I am enjoying. This is quite irritating and such a simple thing. How do I fix it? I tried to research the topic and nothing was recent and it was all way too much.

Thank you for your reply. I did go to the setting on my iPhone and it is checked. and this is what is there. But I am not using my iPhone to watch the shows it’s on my Apple TV box.
Use Play History
Allow TV shows and movies played on this device to
influence your "For You" recommendations and
update your "Continue Watching" across your devices
I just discovered that if I hold down the main pad on my Apple TV remote a window pops up where I can mark it as watched. It used to do it automatically.
Check your settings:
On iOS and iPadOS, go to Settings > TV > Use Play History.
On tvOS, go to Settings > Apps > TV > Use Play History
