BlueTooth will not connect/WiFi connects but will not open folders

I am trying to connect bluetooth/El Capitan to bluetooth/Big Sur and keep getting "An error occurred".

both machine are turned on with bluetooth active.

I have restarted the El Capitan machine but same error.

As an alternate: I attempted to connect El Capitan to Big Sur via WiFi and seem to get a good connection but cannot open any folder other than my logon name.

here again, both machines WiFi are turned on and in use for internet connections. Both have Sharing turned on.

Can anyone tell me what is happening? and if there is a way to correct this?

GOTIT!!!! Finally found out how to do a CD transfer via Bluetooth; all you need to do is drag and drop into the Bluetooth icon and though it take some time to first connect to the other computer (El Capitan to Big Sur) AND almost an hour to download IT WORKED.

Guess no one considers this a derogatory agains Apple who, it looks like, is trying to force peoples into their next generation of iMacs by killing all capabilities that allow communications between machines with older OSX software. ie. 10.11 to 11.4. This communications is critical to some of us because of previous detrimental changes of Pages that would not EASILY allow certain actions and even though those have recently been addressed and removed, there now no way we can bring those files into Big Sur.

I am a genealogist and used Pages 09 on another iMac with 10.11 only because of certain Pages 01/02 problems for creating reports and books which include ease of global replacement using . ? ! " ', marks for unique lookups and changes.

Thanks Apple for driving me away from your great products as it will probably require me to get something else in order to continue passing data from one machine to another.
