24" M1 iMac w/ Full-Size Magic Keyboard
After recent Monterey update, a few things aren't right and one of them is Touch ID.
First Touch ID not working and I had to key in PW every time coming back from sleep mode or restarting the computer.
Then I deleted my fingerprints from Touch ID settings and tried re-do but kept getting error message.
Now Touch ID icon completely disappeared from the System Preferences.
Help?

We'd love to assist you with getting Touch ID back working on your Mac. First, have you tried restarting the Mac using the steps here: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac to see if the option reappears?
Also, does the issue occur in other user accounts? If you already have another user account set up, then you can use that one or create a new one to test in using the steps here: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

There are a few instances where Touch ID will not be accepted by macOS:
• If you restarted your Mac, or if you're not logged into your user account.
• If you have not unlocked your Mac for 48 hours.
• If you are trying to unlock Security & Privacy
• If you are trying to unlock Users & Groups Preferences (when FileVault is on)
• If 5 wrong fingerprint attempts

I did, restart several times, before posting. However overnight the problem fixed itself. This morning the Touch Id magically reappeared and I was able to use it again. I didn't restart. The computer is always on but obviously went to sleep mode overnight. Weird but no complaint.
