MacOS mail app not displaying some images

Using the Mail app (Big Sur 11.6.1, MacBook Pro [early 2015]):

Some images are not appearing in emails that I receive. This is not consistent; sometimes I see images, sometimes I don't. They always appear on the mail server.

The only suggestion I have seen was to enable the "Load remote content in messages" option within Mail->Preferences->Viewing, but this does not help.

Other ideas?
