WHY Does iCloud compress my photo and video???

Hello,

I'm wondering why the downloaded photos from iCloud are all compressed.

I've searched the web and couldn't find any useful solution or recommendation on how to fix it.

As I know and according to my preferences on the iPhone, original photos are uploaded to iCloud and saved on the device.

1. When I download the uploaded video (in MOV, which means that I have already chosen to download the so-call full and original file) using web browser I get it compressed. I see it by the file size (about 70MB).

2. When I plug my iPhone into the USB and copy video directly from the device's memory I get it full size, about 154 MB and normal resolution.

And I also compare the data rate of the two files, apparently, which I download from the icloud.com only have half of the data rate comparing to the original file.

Also if you directly get icloud on your pc or mac and download them from there instead of icloud.com it still compresses the file not as much but it still does. WHY IS THIS?

It depends nohow you download the files from iCloud when using a web browser.

The download button on the webpage offers two modes: You can download the Curren (edited) version, or you can download the unmodified original. The unmodified original will be exactly the file you uploaded to iCloud. The edited version may be a JPEG with a higher compression and smaller file size.

To download the unmodified originals hover the pointer over the download button, until the menu with the options is revealed. A tiny "v" should appear in the lower right corner of the download button in the toolbar. Click it and select to download the unmodified originals.
