I just noticed that some of my contacts are missing. Some of my text messages no longer show a photo or name, only the cell number.
i have it set to back up to the cloud daily… any idea as to what happened?

You can restore your contacts from iCloud. Follow Apple's instructions at If you accidentally deleted your calendars, bookmarks, or contacts from iCloud
Choose a backup date prior to the day you first had data loss.
If the contact for the person sending you messages has been deleted the Messages app has no idea who it is. Once the contact has been restored, or replaced with a new contact, it will once again know the identity of the phone number sending the text.
