transferring data from 2015 iMac to a new 2021 iMac

I completed the data transfer using the migration assistant. I can tell that not all the pictures transferred though. I was told from support that I would have to do it manually. So, I bought a USB drive and now realized that the new iMac does not have the same USB port so I am back at square one. This is the cable that Apple recommends: USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter

$69.00. Any other suggestions?

You do not need that expensive multi-port adapter.

If you have a USB-A external drive that plugs into the old iMac. Then you just need a USB-C to USB-A adapter to plug that external drive into the new iMac.

Well, your 2015 iMac has Thunderbolt 2 and your 2021 iMac has Thunderbolt 3 so if you wanted to do it via Thunderbolt you’d need a TB 3 to 2 adapter… your 2015 iMac has usb 3 and so does your 2021 iMac but in the form of USB-C … so you’d need a usb-c to usb 3.0 adapter which is cheap enough or you could use Ethernet as both of your iMacs have them … turn on file sharing on both iMacs and connect an Ethernet cable between them… just for file sharing it should be OK.. you don’t necessarily need usb-c charging or an hdmi video output… at least not YET… Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter adapters tend to be pricey…and just for data transfer only.. kinda iffy… i’d lean towards the usb-c to usb 3.0 adapter or the Ethernet cable
