Manually naming faces in Photos not working

A few months back, in Photos, when attempting to move or resize a manually-added face, I would have to click outside of the circle once to move the focus onto the photo. Then I could move or resize the circle. Recently (the last month or so), that extra step doesn't work anymore.

When attempting to move or resize a circle for a manually-added face in Photos, a small thumbnail of the photo appears at my cursor as if I am attempting to move the whole photo. I've tried clicking around outside of the circle and that doesn't seem to work anymore.

I'm on an M1 Mac Mini running MacOS Monterey, 12.1

Try the following in order as needed:

1 - As a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it? This tells us if the problem is limited to your current library or is more wide spread. Then open your original library and see if the problem persists.

2 - if the problem persists give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
