Connecting to a computer.

I’ve always been able to connect my iPad to the computer with a USB connection. What do I need now that the iPad Air comes with the USB-C charge cable?

iPad Air, iPadOS 15

For an iPad with a USB-C port, you simply require a USB Type-A to USB-C cable. These are readily available from good computer stores - and Apple:

  • mophie USB-A Cable with USB-C Connector (1 m)

Be very wary of USB-C cable “adapters”. Of those that exist, many only provide connections for power. The USB-C interface standard expressly disallows cable adapters from certification - as adapters can introduce wiring combinations that can seriously damage the USB-C host interface - leading to very expensive repairs. At best, uncertified adapters lack a protective chip within the USB-C connector.
