Why Might Touch ID not be available for the Mac App Store?

Why is Touch ID not offered for the password to the Mac App Store? I have it enabled in Touch ID>System Preferences. I only get the option to enter a password.

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. If this happens after restarting your Mac, it may be expected. Use Touch ID on Mac - Apple Support says the following:

If you still have to enter your password: For security, you need to enter your password when you start your Mac. Sometimes you need to enter your password to continue using Touch ID. For example, users must re-enter their password every 48 hours and after five incorrect fingerprint attempts.

If this continues after entering your password, test in safe mode and another user to see if you can isolate this to your user account. Guidance found in the articles below:
