Disable sort in Finder list view

You can easily choose a different sort order, one that is not affected by the changes you are making - for example, sort by "Date Created". This is guaranteed to never change.

To do that, all you have to is click on the column header (and click again if you want to reverse the order).

If you don't see "Date Created" as one of the columns, control-click the header and check it in the list

(you can also check or uncheck other columns if needed).

You can also change the width, or drag the columns around to change the order in which they are presented in the window.

There is a ton of flexibility in List View!

The List View will always default to some sort order that may prove as tedious to manage as another. It cannot be defeated.

I suggest that you explore the option of having your scanner software auto-name your files with, perhaps, a leading <space>. These will appear at the top of a list sorted alphabetically, Then, as you rename your files you'll simply work your way down from the top of that list. Your scan software should allow this.

Also if you are not aware, Finder has the ability to allow changing file names in batches. You may find it useful.

One option would be to use it to add a <space> to the first position of the filename output by your scanner, if the scanner won't do it. Then you can use the same method as above to do your renaming - assuming the batch feature doesn't allow the flexibility you need.
