Track pad has 2 levels of click, confusing

I have a Macbook Air 2021, my wife has a Macbook air 2019, and its the same on both.

I found this in Textedit, but it also occurs in Safari.

If the cursor is on a word, and I click down and hold, I get the start of a selection and I can drag to select. However, if I don't drag, but instead click down even harder without raising the first click, a window opens with the Dictionary/Thesaurus.

My problem is that I am having difficulty stopping at the first level of press, so have difficulty starting a selection drag.

I spoke to Apple Support and they didn't know about 2 levels of click. I was given a Genius bar appointment to investigate!

That would be the "Look up & Data detectors" options. It can be switched off, or changed within System Preferences. Please see the screenshot below for a visual.
