Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

“First generation Apple TV” is a bit ambiguous, as there is an original 1st generation, and a 4K 1st generation model. Such is the unfortunate naming of models 🤷🏻‍♂️.

You can use any Siri Remote with any Apple TV with tvOS 14.5 or later, that is the same models that worked with Siri Remote (1st generation).

You cannot use the Siri Remote with Apple TV (3rd generation or earlier).

Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) (A2169, 2021): works with any Apple remote, but best with Siri Remote.
Apple TV 4K (1st generation) (A1842, 2017): works with any Apple remote, but best with Siri Remote.
Apple TV HD (4th generation) (A1625, 2015): works with any Apple remote, but best with Siri Remote.
Apple TV (3rd generation) (A1427, 2012) (A1469, 2013): works with Apple Remote (aluminum or white).
Apple TV (2nd generation) (A1378, 2010): works with Apple Remote (aluminum or white).
Apple TV (1st generation) (A1218, 2007): works with Apple Remote (aluminum or white).
