synching Mac info to Phone

Had problems with Messages, and I installed current OS for phone. Now Contacts and Calendars are not synched. I get a message to 'turn off' these apps on iCloud settings, but in the new iCloud there is no place to turn anything off.

Hello Eric Fromm,

If you are attempting to make adjustments to your iCloud Settings under macOS Ventura, you'll want to click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner and then click on System Settings. From there you should be able to click on your name in the left sidebar and then click on iCloud to see the available options and toggles.

If you're being prompted to adjust those settings on your iPhone running iOS 16, you'll want to tap on your name at the top of Settings. Then tap on iCloud.

The steps here may be beneficial as well, since it's specific to the behavior you're experiencing and contains steps for both your iPhone and Mac: If your iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders won’t sync - Apple Support

Just let us know if you aren't able to locate those options, or if your contacts and calendars still aren't syncing after adjusting your settings. We'll keep moving forward from there.

Cheers!

Thanks for getting back to us about this, Eric Fromm.

We appreciate you completing all of the steps in our previous reply. Since the issue persists, we'd recommend creating a new admin test user to see if the same behavior occurs. You can complete those steps using this article: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

We'll also include those steps here for easy access:

"Add a user

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
  2. Click the lock icon  to unlock it.
  3. Enter an administrator name and password.
  4. Click the Add button  below the list of users.
  5. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user.
    • Administrator: An administrator can add and manage other users, install apps, and change settings. The new user you create when you first set up your Mac is an administrator. Your Mac can have multiple administrators. You can create new ones, and convert standard users to administrators. Don’t set up automatic login for an administrator. If you do, someone could simply restart your Mac and gain access with administrator privileges. To keep your Mac secure, don’t share administrator names and passwords.
    • Standard: Standard users are set up by an administrator. Standard users can install apps and change their own settings, but can’t add other users or change other users’ settings.
    • Sharing Only: Sharing-only users can access shared files remotely, but can’t log in to or change settings on the computer. To give the user permission to access your shared files or screen, you may need to change settings in the File Sharing, Screen Sharing, or Remote Management pane of Sharing preferences. See Set up file sharing and Share the screen of another Mac.
  1. For more information about the options for each type of user, click the Help button in the lower-left corner of the dialog.
  2. Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
  3. Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.
  4. Click Create User.
  5. Depending on the type of user you create, you can also do any of the following:
    • For an administrator, select “Allow user to administer this computer.”
    • Use Sharing preferences to specify whether the user can share your files and share your screen."

Once complete, let's go ahead and log in to iCloud and determine if those options are still missing. This can help us determine if it's isolated to your user profile, and then we can take a deeper look to see if a login item, Setting, or more could be affecting this process.

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities and have a wonderful day.

Thanks for the reply. First off, I'm using Catalina. When I go to iCloud on my mac, it opens on the 'new' home page, which appears is the settings, there are no other options. It now shows my notes, which I hand applied, and the calendar, but no contacts. I added all the cards from my mac contact list that I wanted on my phone from the cloud, but this was pretty much accomplished manually. There does not seem to be a smooth 'syncing' occurring between both devices. Messages still do not sync either between devices - what I imput on the phone does not show up on the mac, and vice versa. That was the original problem. And messages does not show up anywhere on iCloud. I really like having messages on the mac, and for many months it worked fine on both devices. Now it doesn't.

Can someone tell me how to get rid of the Admin user I created? This has been a real mess, and I don't want any more hassles with new passwords not working, spinning desktops, etc. I just want things to work the way they did before I followed your instructions. I assumed the Apple adm was temporary. When the system didn't work and Mac crashed, all my info was not available. At least I could access my phone, but I didn't have password info there.

Greetings Eric Fromm,

We truly understand and want to ensure your Mac is working as it should. As for additional troubleshooting steps, you'll certainly want to reach out to Apple. They'll be able to take a closer look in to the issues you're facing. As for deleting the test admin user account, you can log in to your admin user account, once logged in click the Apple logo towards the top-left, followed by System Settings > Users & Groups. If the lock is closed, click the log icon towards the bottom-left of the window and enter your admin user account information. Once unlocked, click on the test admin user account in the left column, followed by the minus sign to delete the account. This will remove the test admin user account while keeping your original user account on the Mac.

Take care!

Todd-when I follow your instructions, everything is fine until I get to the unlocked section. The Apple adm that I set up is greyed out, I am unable to delete it. There is also a guest user account which has always been there, and it is dark but I cannot delete it either. It also has a checkmark on the right saying admin has access to this account, but that too is greyed out. This whole process added an ID in my top dashboard bar that has not been there. The name shown there is my Apple ID, but is different than the name on my Admin account in Preferences. ?

My issues continue with iCloud. Seemingly without changes being made, I am now unable to send emails. One I replied to this morning went out, but with both my server and iCloud as the sender. I do not use iCloud for mail. On other replies, the arrow is greyed out, and shows only a 'reply all' arrow that does not allow me to send. It saves as a draft, but still does not send. The red button notifications on my desktop come and go randomly, that is they don't always show up. I downloaded updates to OS on both phone and desktop and something is still not right.

I do not see the reason for iCloud to be showing on my mail since I use Gmail. It does not show on iCloud settings at all, but appears in the Mail settings This is getting very frustrating as I have work to get on with. Please advise.
