My iPad only works when it is plugged in. The battery status says 100%. If it is not plugged in, it will stop working within no more than 10 minutes if it is being used. If it is not being used and has no open apps, it will stay on overnight.

As described, your iPad is exhibiting classic symptoms of a battery that has reached the end of its useable life, or has developed a fault - both conditions only being resolvable through replacement of the battery.

You might be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support - and request a remote diagnostic test. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad:
