Mail for domain hosted at iCloud

When Google decided to charge for hosting a unique domain's email, I discovered I could host it at Apple, since I was already paying Apple for an inclusive tier of service. I moved the domain to Apple and now my unique domain email works fine. BUT I started getting error prompts to authenticate the email account requiring me to go back to the Google account. I deleted the email account from my email client, intending to add back the email to the email client redirecting it to what is now hosted by Apple.


My question is this... in trying to add a "new" email (which is working as accessed by a browser session to iCloud) I need to navigate the wizard setup for a new account in the Email app (in this case Spark). I can't seem to use the iCloud wizard button, even using a new app specific password along with my user name for my unique domain. Should I use manual setup and if so, what credentials do I use to direct to the IMAP/SMTP server, for example?


Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Great question. In the article, it mentions the info needed depends on the incoming or outgoing settings:


Incoming: "Username: This is usually the name of your iCloud Mail email address (for example, johnappleseed, not johnappleseed@icloud.com). If your email client app can't connect to iCloud Mail using just the name of your email address, try using the full address.


Outgoing: "Username: Your full iCloud Mail email address (for example, johnappleseed@icloud.com, not johnappleseed)

  • Password: Use the app-specific password that you generated when you set up the incoming mail server."

Each step may be getting me closer to success, but still not there yet and it's often the tiniest detail that makes the difference.


To recap...

my unique domain is "XYZ".com (not real domain and of course no ""used)

I moved my domain email from Google to Apple iCloud and it works fine both send and receive

I just want to be able to use my email without having to log into iCloud mail via web browser

I'm using Spark as my email client (but I also couldn't set up "XYZ" email in the Apple Mail app)


Setting up the Add Account Manually details in Spark

email: mark@"xyz".com

Inbox (imap) username: mark@"xyz".com

password: an app specific pw created two days ago for Spark

server: imap.mail.me.com

port: 993

protection: starttls (tried just SSL first and it didn't work either)


outbox server (SMTP)

username: mark@"xyz".com

password: same Spark app specific password

server: smtp.mail.me.com

port: 587

protection: starttls


I get a Spark generated error message Can't add an account? See our help page, so not sure if this is an Apple side issue or a Spark side issue.


Still struggling and appreciate the ongoing assistance.

Thanks for that description. It sounds like you're trying to configure a third party account or an iCloud account but need to update the service settings. The following guide can help you with that: iCloud Mail server settings for other email client apps
