There is actually an image above this text. Yes, I know you can barely see anything —this is exactly my problem. This particular image is a screen shot of the bumph at the bottom of the screen I'm writing on right now, but the same thing is true of everything, in all apps. It's all so faint I have trouble seeing what I'm doing. The icons in my dock are so washed out I can't tell Notes from Reminders; Downloads is totally blank. Finder windows are almost impossible to navigate, because I can barely make out their contents. This is true on either of my two monitors. I've tried to address the issue in System Settings, but the options under the Accessibility > Display tab—Increase Contrast, Display Contrast, and Reduce Transparency—are unresponsive. Nothing happens when I click on them.
Any suggestions will be most welcome (and are urgently requested).

In webdesign your reference text is not meant to "jump out" by design.
