AirTag
Get one of those round thin jar openers that have the ‘rough’ side to get friction. Put the AirTag on a flat surface, put the jar opener over it, then press down on two sides and rotate left. It should pop right off.

Yeah, it is NOT easy if it has been a while. I pressed around on all sides to unstick them, not just the 2 places it shows in the video. I also took a wide rubber band and pressed it against the metal to get more friction than my fingers could make.
User rubber gloves. Dish washing gloves did the trick for me.
When the airtag cover won't come off easily by twisting, use rubber gloves and then twist with rubber gloves. It does come off with rubber gloves.
I had the same problem. Used an adjustable wrench, tightened it around the thin metal edge of the battery cover while I held the white part in my hand. It twisted open immediately.
After struggling with several of the proposed solutions, I successfully used duct tape, which was placed carefully over the silver side, but not touching the white frame. The cover opened and closed with little effort.
If you're having trouble opening up an airtag battery case, use a rubber band. Push down on the silver battery cover with your fingers, but place a rubber band between your fingers and the cover to improve traction. Should work.
Yes! Perfect! I didn’t have rubber gloves, so I placed a thick rubber band over the metal cap and rotated!
I used kitchen type rubber gloves which gave me enough friction to open the tag. Getting the two sides together was NOT easy. With only one glove on, right, helped twisting the two side together, albeit it took 30 minutes to change the battery. I hope Apple is reading this post!
I wet my fingers to get traction on the slippery metal and it worked fine
I couldn’t budge it with fingers. Used pliers to gently hold the edge of the metal and it twisted right off!
I use Luvvitt TagPopper to remove and reassemble the battery easily.
You have to remove the AirTag from its holder, then you can feel the depression and can rotate.
Step one… remove the white AirTag from the black cover.
I put some painters tape on the logo side and twisted with a little pressure and it came off. It worked!
