I have the exact same issue. My inbox shows 1000+ emails. I sort by sender, delete spam, etc.. then as soon as the client checks for new mail the deleted emails reappear. I've tried many forums and have gotten some pretty stupid answers, nothing to actually fix the problem. Supposedly the BEST thing to do is install an AOL app, which I'm not going to do. Since my email was original via Verizon, I asked them. They sent me to AOL. AOL told me I'd need to pay them to have them look at it. So at this point I guess I have to go on the AOL website and delete there. AND YES it's beyond inefficient and primitive. There are a couple ways to speed things up. Sort by sender, see which ones are the most numerous, search for that sender and select all/delete. Or scroll all the way down to the bottom, select a message you want to delete and scroll up until you see a message you want to keep, hold the shift key and select all messages up to that one then delete. Still not as convenient as it could be if OUR MAILBOXES WOULD DELETE OUR MAILS WHEN WE DELETE THEM ON OUR CLIENT. But oh well...
