I am trying to connect two 27" desktop imacs via thunderbolt 2

I am trying to connect two desktop macs


Mac OS BigSur 11.2.3

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)

and

Mac OS BigSur 11.7.4

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)

with a thunderbolt 2 cable


not having any success

For Target Display mode the source Mac needs to be 2019 or earlier running Catalina or earlier.


The target iMac needs to be mid 2014 or earlier and needs to be running High Sierra or earlier.

Your Late 2014 5K iMac is not supported for this in any way.


Yes, you could make a bootable macOS drive to boot one of the Macs into Catalina to be the source Mac, but the other Mac would still not be supported as a display target.
