How do I create a smart album in photos for mac which includes selected persons but excludes specific people.
I have tried:
Match all conditions:
"person includes person1, person2, person3"+
"person is not excluded person"
But it yields no results.
Also:
"person includes person1, person2" yields an empty result.
Is there a solution?

With “match all”you will only find groups of person 1 to 3, but not single portraits of person 1 to 3. If the intention has been to find all photos of 1 to 3, but only without person 4, it needs to be done in two steps, because we cannot combine a “match all” and “ match any” in one smart album.
As a work-around, either hide all photos of person 4, or collect all photos of person 1 to three in an album and use a smart album with “match all: album is … and person is not”.

As you noted, "person includes X, Y" doesn't do what you might expect.
Try this:
Match All:
Person includes person1
Person includes person2
Person includes person3
Person does not include excluded-person

I found the solution was to find all photos of the excluded person and add them to the hidden album. That way, a smart album set to match any of the wanted people found all combinations of those people, but the excluded person was hidden.
The filter options need to be expanded so that a "match any" can be combined with "but exclude".
Also, a comma delimited list for matching would be useful.
